Bruno Batinica

Postdoctoral Student

Bruno is a medical doctor and data scientist driven by a passion for utilizing technology to improve patient care. He is currently a post-graduate researcher at the Cardiovascular Data Science Lab (CarDS-Lab), where his work centers on the integration of artificial intelligence in cardiology practice.

Bruno graduated from medical school at the University of Auckland in New Zealand in 2023 with an MBChB (equivalent to an MD in the US or an MBBS in the UK). He worked as a junior doctor at Auckland City Hospital, completing four different rotations, including one in cardiology, which he absolutely loved.

During medical school, Bruno conducted research projects on wearable sensors in orthopedics and took a year out of his clinical studies to work with Prof. Rod Jackson on improving cardiovascular risk prediction equations, specifically widely deployable EHR-based ones. After graduating and working in the hospital, he saw the potential to create a smarter and more patient-focused health system, which motivated him to join the CarDS group.

Bruno has always been interested in technology, programming, and science. Initially, he spent a year studying engineering before switching to medicine. He has maintained his analytical skills and enjoys training machine learning models, hoping to conduct research on building better tools to predict risk and monitor health outcomes.

In his free time, Bruno loves playing basketball, reading, making music with his partner, and being obsessed with his cat, a brown Tonkinese named Monkey.
